Crisis Services and Community Integration

This webinar will focus of the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Olmstead decision regarding provision of crisis services for people with psychiatric disabilities. We will begin by providing an overview of the legal framework that governs state obligations by Jennifer Mathis, deputy legal director at the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law. Kappy Madenwald of Madenwald Consulting will then describe the essential elements and practices of an effective mental health crisis system. Her presentation will touch on all aspects of crisis systems, drawing on her years of experience in the evaluation, development, implementation, and operation of community-based crisis intervention services. Finally, Glenda Wrenn, the Director of the Division of Behavioral Health at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute (SHLI) at Morehouse School of Medicine, will discuss an initiative she led to make significant improvements to crisis services as part of efforts to comply with Georgia's Olmstead settlement with the Justice Department, and ongoing work in Georgia to bring successful crisis services to scale. There will then be a moderated question and answer period.
