Criminal Justice / Mental
Health
NASMPHD is a key participant of the Criminal
Justice / Mental Health Consensus Project, a national effort coordinated
by the Council of State Governments to help local, state, and federal
policymakers and criminal justice and mental health professionals improve
the way in which we care for people with mental illness who become involved
in, or are at risk of involvement in, the criminal justice system. The
Council
of State Governments' Criminal Justice/ Mental Health Consensus Report
was released in June 2002.
NASMHPD has been working with the TAPA
Center for Jail Diversion, a branch of the National GAINS Center,
through their contract with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA), on jail diversion strategies and activities in
the states.
