The National Summit is SAMHSA’s kickoff for the upcoming work regarding trauma-informed practices and the reduction of seclusion and restraint. The National Summit will be held November 14-15, 2011 at the Crystal City Hyatt in Arlington, VA. The purpose of the National Summit is to provide a forum to Promote Alternatives to Seclusion and Restraint through Trauma Informed Care as well as discuss SAMHSA’s past efforts, promising practices, and future vision for the field. The Summit will feature workshops, plenary sessions and a listening session that will cover topics to include:
· Trauma-informed care and recovery-based practices in various service settings;
· Alternatives to seclusion, restraint, and other coercive interventions; and
· The importance of consumer involvement in trauma informed practices and the reduction of seclusion and restraint.
