The Criminal Justice / Mental Health Consensus Project has released its Advocacy Handbook. The Advocacy Handbook is a how-to guide for advocates who want to improve the response to people with mental illness who are in contact with the criminal justice system. The Consensus Project is coordinated by the Council of State Governments and is assisted by several partners, including NASMHPD.
The Consensus Project, which is sponsored by the Council of State Governments and NASMHPD (as a project partner), is pleased to announce the release of a new issue brief: "Violence against Women with Mental Illness." The issue brief summarizes the latest research regarding this issue, identifies some programs and resources that serve women with mental illness who are recent victims of crime, and recommends an action agenda for the federal government. 2005
NASMHPD, supported by its Targeted Technical Assistance contract with the Center for Mental Health Sevices, has produced its first Quarterly Transformation Report. This report surverys responding state mental health agencies about currently ongoing transformative efforts. The Report is available in PDF form.
2004
NASMHPD has served as a partner with the RPC - a bipartisan group of practitioners, policymakers, and advocates - in an effort to produce a report that provides comprehensive policy recommendations for improving the likelihood that adults released from prison or jail will make a safe and successful return to their home communities. The final report is available at the Re-Entry Policy Council's website.
